MovieQuick.com - is an online movie retailer offering its customers DVD rentals, and snacks via traditional "snail mail". The company's business model is similar to Netflix. Prior to DAL designing and developing their ecommerce solution Moviequick.com ran its operation using a Yahoo online store. The company wanted a solution that would free them from the high cost of operating the Yahoo store; along with having better control of the way the applications interfaced with their accounting and monitored managed the inventory.
Moviequick.com's owners were originally managers in the technology/ networking business and were familiar with technologies going obsolete and having a short shelf life. This was the owner's first venture into ecommerce and they knew from their technology experience that they wanted a site that could expand, provide a safe secure shopping environment and had an attractive appeal with a brand image that would appeal to the masses. They also insisted the applications not be limited and that they not be developed or hosted with any sort of proprietary technologies. They wanted to make certain should they ever bring the management of the site and its applications in house; that they would have a site that would be easy to find programmers and site developers to manage and expand the site and its applications. Most importantly they wanted assurances that their design, technology investment was protected.
DAL developed and integrated applications that provided Moviequick.com with all of the services they were looking for including live inventory, sales reports, customer records, shopping cart and the ability to easily integrate with either Quick Books Professional Series Accounting or Peachtree Accounting. In the end integration was of the applications was seamless and the "inventory system was updated live" with each transaction. Live inventory updating made certain that the customers would know quickly if the movie they were interested in was available or not.
The applications were developed using open source technologies Java, PHP, HTML and the database integrates seamlessly with MYSQL server database. The site is hosted on a dedicated Dell server running Linux.
